Classic and timeless campaign advice. And I suspect I know who said it.

Turns out that campaign should have listened to you. The 21st century could have turned out a lot differently.

A very good friend of mine was telling me a story recently about Leidy Klotz and the LEGO bridge. He’s a top notch engineer and he and his son built a LEGO bridge together, but there was a load problem affecting the bridge. So he added some bricks here and added them there… couldn’t solve the problem. Then his son stepped in and simply removed 1 brick from the original design and problem solved. As adults we try to add things all the time to solve issues. In businesses, it can be departments or bureaucratic managers, and in campaigns it can be extensive micro-targeting, or another text message, or the latest and greatest tech stack. I would even argue that we are so far down the road of “persuading Republican to vote for Democrats” that we have completely cut off our own tail some times-like an overstretched supply line in battle. We have forgot the simple blocking and tackling of our game. Glad I came across your post today.
